Week 7: How Do I Flip My Classroom?

What is a Flipped Classroom? What does it mean to Flip My Class? What can "Flipping" do for my students?

Have you ever asked yourself these questions?  Flipping the classroom is more than creating videos to replace your content.  Watch these two videos made by teachers to help understand the what and why of a Flipped Classroom.

How to Get Started

There are a variety of tools you can use to create your flipped lessons.  Here are just a few:
  • Screencast-O-Matic - This free screencast tool is a great option if you are using a computer (PC or Mac). You are able to record everything that's happening on your screen, along with your voice over and then save into a video file that you then share with your students.  The tool can be run straight from the website but will run smoother if you download and install onto your computer.

  • Explain Everything - This is another great tool for creating screencasts using your iPad.  It is an interactive whiteboard app where you can quickly and easily capture your lesson through writing or drawing, import your Powerpoint or Keynote presentations, add other videos and then easily save your video to Google Drive where your students can access.

  • VideoScribe - Create animated whiteboard style videos using this tool that you download on your computer.  The introductory video above by Stacey Roshan was created using this tool. There is a monthly subscription cost but have a 7-day trial offer if you'd like to try it out.
